The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug - Released!

Finally, after yet another, long, year of waiting, THE HOBBIT: DESOLATION OF SMAUG has arrived!  Millions of fans around the globe are highly excited for this movie. Just around 50 minutes ago, TH:DoS was released in some parts of the U.S.A.  I must say, Thank you, thank YOU so much for coming with me yet another year for this amazing trilogy!  365 days ago, this blog was in the exact same position of the Hobbits release.

Several reviews (Is it just me,or is the font of the typing suddenly different?Oh well..) have rated that this movie is much better than the first, saying that the second Hobbit movie is much faster and is the very "action-packed, won't let down" type of film.
Take a moment, and think: who is your favorite character in The Hobbit ?
I will be doing a review on The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug in  a few days time! Thanks!

The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug - 4 Days Away!

The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, is only FOUR, yes ladies and gentlemen, FOUR days away! Based on reviews of the movie so far, it is much better than the first one, and.. well, here, have a look at a review for yourself.

Peter Jackson has picked up the pace. He began his Hobbit trilogy at an amiable, meanderingly wayward canter, and tried the patience of believers and non-believers alike with that initial supper scene, almost an epic in itself. But this second episode commences with a narrative whipcrack – a quick flashback to Gandalf and Thorin tensely discussing their great plan in the snug bar of the Prancing Pony – and then we're off, at a tremendous gallop.
  1. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
  2. Production year: 2013
  3. Country: USA
  4. Directors: Peter Jackson
  5. Cast: Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage
  6. More on this film
The Desolation of Smaug is a cheerfully entertaining and exhilarating adventure tale, a supercharged Saturday morning picture: it's mysterious and strange and yet Jackson also effortlessly conjures up that genial quality that distinguishes The Hobbit from the more solemn Rings stories. The absurdity is winning: you're laughing with, not laughing at. For me, it never sagged once in its mighty two hour 40 minutes running time and the high-frame-rate projection for this film somehow looks richer and denser than it did the last time around. Maybe I'm just getting used to it. Jackson has shown that he is an expert in big-league popular movie-making to rival Lucas and Spielberg. His Smaug, with its fight scenes, chase spectaculars, creepy creatures and secret stone doors opening with a grinding noise, is something to set alongside the Indiana Jones films.

The end of the second movie out of three gives us a chance to revisit that critical question: does The Hobbit story work at this great length? Does epic-i-sation risk making The Hobbit too dour? In the book itself, Tolkien wrote: "Things that are good to have and days that are good to spend are soon told about, and not much to listen to; while things that are uncomfortable, palpitating and even gruesome, may make a good tale, and take a deal of telling anyway." So perhaps Tolkien anticipated the way in which fantasy can grow exponentially, spinning substance out of itself, and become more and more serious and even solemn. Yet this second Hobbit film has real energy and charm.

Smaug is of course the terrible dragon, voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, who has usurped the Lonely Mountain and the dwarf kingdom of Erebor with all its gold, and whom the dwarves and Bilbo Baggins are on a mission to unseat. The "desolation" is the wasteland he has imposed on the country thereabouts, rather than any depression the dragon himself may be feeling. Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) is the alpha dwarf, grimly intent on his destiny: to reclaim his people's heritage and homeland. Martin Freeman is Bilbo, and Freeman's laidback, more naturalistic line-readings make a pleasing and interesting contrast to the more contoured saga-speak that comes out of everyone else's mouth, whether they are speaking English or Elvish or the guttural Orc tongue.

Bilbo is reluctant to confide the truth about the ring in his possession toIan McKellen's Gandalf, who absents himself from the party reasonably early on, leaving that visually striking group looking and feeling vulnerable. Poor little Bilbo playing a non-Snow-White to the even littler dwarves as they trail across the magnificent landscape – but who are in fact tougher, more aggressive and more resilient than him.

A series of bizarre fantasy episodes, in a kind of Jackson-Tolkien-rococo style, brings us closer and closer to the mountain. The dwarves encounter Beorn the skin-changer who agrees, albeit churlishly, to help. The company finds itself lost and somehow spiritually oppressed in the forest of Mirkwood in which they get up close and personal with some colossal and very nasty spiders, which loom out of the screen in three dimensions, encasing their prisoners with skin-crawling webs. But the most uproarious setpiece comes when Bilbo, Thorin and the dwarves escape from the wood-elves' prison by hiding in barrels that are washed away down the river – which will bring them in contact with Bard the Bowman (Luke Evans) and then the vain, shifty and time-serving Lord of Laketown, enjoyably played by Stephen Fry.

The barrel-chase down the river is a great sequence: a full-tilt headspinning action spectacular with orc against elf against dwarf-and-hobbit. Somehow, the whole movie has this same huge propulsive energy, whooshing the heroes onwards towards their great goal. Despite the dwarves' tough reputations, and Bilbo's expertise in the ignoble art of burglary, their diminutive size always gives them a weirdly childlike air: an air of outraged and unquenchable innocence. Bilbo's showdown with the terrible Smaug himself is of course the great finale, a narrative rhyme to his faceoff with Gollum that concluded the last film, and a satisfyingly exotic event.

And all the time, Jackson's New Zealand landscape has a storybook beauty, a fitting habitat for this story which unfolds in all seasons and times of day: fallen snowflakes gather in beards, the last rays of sunset glints in fur. Jackson depicts this fantasy world with style and gusto, and I'm looking forward to the third film already.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug World Premiere not to be held in New Zealand.

Part of a deal signed with Warner Bros and New Line Cinema said at least one of the world premieres had to be held in New Zealand.
Jackson’s spokesman Matt Dravitzki this morning confirmed the second premiere would not be held in New Zealand this year.
Although this means the World Premiere is not be held in New Zealand, Wellington will still hold a premiere.
Read this piece of information from TheOneRing.Net
'TheOneRing.net has learned via reputable sources that the world premiere for The Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug is going to be held in Los Angeles. No word on the precise date or venue yet, but late November seems a good bet.
We also think this makes London a very good bet for the world premiere of There and Back Again in 2014.'

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug new trailer.

Yes, exactly what the title says. A new trailer has been released for the second part of The Hobbit. Personally, I find it better then the other trailer for the second part. Now THIS trailer really gets me excited for The Hobbit. It sends chills down the back of my spine, and makes me want to buy Lord of The Rings: War in The North again. My rating for this trailer is about a...hmm... lets say around about a 7.5. Tell me what you think?

Well, first of all, I must say, a huge, and HUGE thank you, to ALL of the people out of there who visit this blog. I must say, when I started this blog on January the 15th of 2012, I never imagined it would get 3,000 views! And to think we've still got 1 more year until part 3... wow! Unfortunately, I'm not quite sure how to thank all of you!  I'm rather young, ( less than 15 yrs of age) so I cannot do any money awards... please comment on how I should do this!
Here are some suggestions:
1. Me making a video of LOTR (somehow) and then posting it onto here.
2. Me making a video of me saying thank you....
3. An amazing spectacular hobbit-like chance to meet me on a game, or Skype.
4. Posting a song based on The Hobbit one of my friends made.

As you can see, I'm not quite sure what to do! I know this post isn't enough for all of you amazing people...

Yours hobbitly,

Dwarves - Part 3! (FINAL)

And here, hobbitiers, is the final part of Dwarves by one of my very helpful friends, Kayla Campbell!!

Now it gets slightly difficult. The next is Nori! Nori can be remembered by his strange hair… starfish hair… yeah. Nori is kinda dodgy… if he’s up to something it’s quite likely illegal.
Nori’s name means ‘Little shaver, a small bit of something’

Unlike his brother, Nori, Ori is more… knitted mittens and button sweaters. He’s the innocent looking one, one of the younger dwarves. He likes to write and draw. He is very polite, but has ruthless determination. His name means, ‘Violent,’

Dori is the brother of Nori and Ori, and has his grey hair all plaited up weird at the back… which is probably the only distinct characteristic he has. Dori looks out for Ori constantly. He is a pessimist, and generally expects the worst! Dori’s name means ‘Borer’

Then we have Oin! Oin is the one with a hearing loss, he carries a horn-thingy-ma-bobby to hold up to his ear (What is that called again? I can’t remember) which is probably the best way to remember him. He is the healer in the company. He is the brother of Gloin. Oin’s name means ‘Shy’

Last but not least, we have Gloin, our stereotypical dwarf! He has a typical dwarf beard, and a typical dwarf manner, which is what I remember him by! Gloin is the father of Gimli, who would in future become acclaimed for a role in the Fellowship of the Ring. Gloin is the only married one in the company. He is quick-tempered, loyal and brave. Gloin’s name means ‘Glowing One’

Thirteen dwarves, thirteen characteristics, thirteen explanations (and now ten sore fingers form typing!). I hope this is a help to anyone who wanted to get to know their dwarves!

That's all the parts of the Dwarves  series! I really hope you enjoyed! (NO CREDIT TO ME) Soon, I will be doing a review on the PC/Mac/Linux game, 'The Hobbit: Armies of the Third Age'

Dwarves - Part 2

Yes, I agree this is a few days overdue. But here it is!

Kili. The dwarf without a beard. That’s how you remember him! (Or pretty dwarf. Many people know him as pretty dwarf) Kili is the dwarf you are most likely to put with your OC in your ‘The Hobbit’ fanfiction! He is the nephew of Thorin- and the youngest of all the company, and a bit reckless and carefree. Kili’s name can mean ‘Wedge’ or ‘One who uses a wedge’

Fili, brother of Kili and nephew of Thorin. Unlike his pretty brother, Fili DOES have a beard- if not a very small one. He can be remembered by this, and the fact he has blonde hair… I mean, come on! Stereotypical Middle Earth dwarf DOESN’T, I repeat, doesn’t have blonde hair! As for personality… well, if Kili is Pippin, than Fili is Merry. And the two together… cause trouble. Fili’s name means ‘File’ or ‘Filer’.

Bifur doesn’t speak the common tongue- he can only speak ancient dwarvish… which makes it hard to relate to him… but it is easy to remember him- the reason for his condition is the remains of an orc axe stickin’ out of his face. He- along with his cousins Bofur and Bombur- is the only dwarf in the company not related to Thorin or of high and royal lineage. Bifur’s name means ‘Hard worker’

Bofur is the dwarf with the funny hat (the way to remember him), and my favourite dwarf! (I mean, who doesn’t love the guy with the funny hat?) He has a tendency to blurt things out and state the obvious, has a fine singing voice and loves music. ‘He joined the quest for the lonely mountain partly to seek his fortune-’ Says Weta Studios ‘- and partly because he was told the beer was free,’
He- along with his brother Bombur and cousin Bifur- is the only dwarf in the company not related to Thorin or of high and royal lineage. The meaning of Bofur’s name is unknown.

Final Part 3 coming in 3 days time. Be Hobbity! - Hobbit

Dwarves - Part 1

Hello once again Hobbitiers! Today, I;m showing you something different. Instead of my usual slightly-interesting-however-slight-boring posts, I bring something my friend made. My friend is also a very big fan of LOTR and is also absolutely crazy about Pippin. My friend made this umm...what to call it.. 'introduction' of the 13 dwarves, Each coming in 3 parts! I will upload the next one next week, and the next one the week after that. So - Here's part one!

Dwarves are a HUGE part of The Hobbit, making up thirteen of the main characters! But when most people are asked which is their favourite one, they often say, “Um….”
Remembering all thirteen dwarves seems hard, but it’s actually simple! All you need to do is match a name to a special characteristic.
Peter Jackson knew the dwarves would be hard to tell apart; that’s why he made them all look distinctly different!
Thorin, Balin, Dwalin, Fili, Kili, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Ori, Nori, Dori, Oin, and Gloin all have something special about them that makes them unique. Let’s start with the easy one. Bombur.

So, basically, Bombur is the fat dwarf. That’s the best way to remember him. He’s lovable and funny (though he doesn’t speak- just eats!) and the cook in the company. But seriously- cut down on the cheese, dude! Bombur- along with his brother Bofur and his cousin Bifur- is the only dwarf not related to Thorin or of high and royal lineage. Bombur’s name actually means ‘the swollen one’

Our next dwarf is Balin- another easy one! Balin has an epic beard- with a likeness to Santa Claus…He’s loyal to Thorin and would follow him anywhere. He’s one of the oldest and wisest in the company. His name has no meaning- but is suggested his name is derived from ‘Old Norse’ ‘bál’ meaning ‘Fire’. ‘Balin’ could mean ‘Burning-one’.

Dwalin is Balin’s brother. He is mostly bald- (apart from, of course, his beard)- and has a tattoo across his scalp. He’s quite rough, ‘a powerful and bruising fighter’ says Weta Studios – and particularly suspicious of elves. Dwalin’s name could mean ‘lying in a trance’ ‘numb’ or ‘dawdler’

Here we go- onto Thorin- the leader of the company. Thorin has a distinctive kingly, majestic air about him- which usually allows me to remember him every time- however, another way to remember is the grim look which is pretty much constantly on his face.

"I am Thorin son of Thrain son of Thror King under the Mountain! I return!"

Thorin is so grim for a reason- his home was attacked by Smaug the dragon- and even as Erebor fell no aid came and he never forgave… and never forgot. Thorin’s name means ‘Bold’

That, My friends, is part 1! If the images don't appear, I will try and get them working in 24 hours time.
