It's been 3 years since I started this blog, counting down for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. My original intentions were simply to countdown for the first movie, and end the blog. Instead, I decided to continue, all the way until the very last movie in 2014. Although I haven't always put this blog in my first priority, it has been a hobby of mine, to check and update through the weeks.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTLm3uwx2e2rGMShdWbhxHFeQdqPBHiO-rIs3FYoifEZWc-NixNYgYJ1wcXn5JNCoYjxGCNJ9-tzCMUGFqRH3-_JYHYMlDZInU-NxQ_PDRpc9W2M9Qllg7j766LmaH1PStco0hAuKMbose/s1600/thehobbitfinal.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTLm3uwx2e2rGMShdWbhxHFeQdqPBHiO-rIs3FYoifEZWc-NixNYgYJ1wcXn5JNCoYjxGCNJ9-tzCMUGFqRH3-_JYHYMlDZInU-NxQ_PDRpc9W2M9Qllg7j766LmaH1PStco0hAuKMbose/s1600/thehobbitfinal.jpeg" height="258" width="400" /></a>And now, the countdown has finished, and it has ended.<br />
I have loved these past 3 years, and the reminder that I always had a blog to update. I can't quite fathom that these 3 years are already over, and the blog along with it. Thank you, all of you, who have read the posts, who have commented (but let's admit, few have done that) and especially to Movie Fanatic for updating this blog when I had lost the will to do so this year.<br />
Thanks as well to TheOneRing.net, with whom I have received some news to post here. <br />
<br />
I received the inspiration to start this blog from the first trailer of The Hobbit, and after watching it a few times, I remember deciding to start a blog counting down for The Hobbit, and I have not regretted it. I do not have much more to say, apart from thank you - a lot.<br />
I will not however, vanish into the oblivion of the internet just yet, as I have one more blogging journey left just yet - the new Star Wars trilogy, which will launch on Jan 14th, Jan 15th for those who live in New Zealand and Australia. I will also be changing my blogger name from 'hobbit' to 'Jedihobbit'.<br />
Goodbye, and thank you.<br />
And forevermore,<br />
Stay hobbity.<br />

The Third and final installment to The Hobbit trilogy has been released, ending the journey that began thirteen years ago with the release of The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring.<br />
<b>*Small Spoilers Ahead*</b><br />
<br />
As those of you who have read the book are aware, there isn't a large amount of story in this part of The Hobbit - most likely why some critics are giving The Hobbit some mediocre reviews.<br />
The bits of story that are in The Hobbit are well executed, and the link between the ending and the start of FoTR is good. The main part of the movie - the battle - is amazing - at least, in my view. The arrival of all the armies throughout the movie, the start of the battle and the events leading up to it are great.<br />
However, some scenes with CGI are noticeable, and other scenes include slightly overreacted acting - such as when Bard grabs the Black Arrow from his son - you'll see.<br />
Personally I loved it, even though it had some things in the movie that weren't in the book.<br />
<br />
I give The Hobbit: BOFTA - 8/10<br />
<br />
And now, as many of you have noticed, I created this blog solely for the countdown of the Hobbit. And now that the final movie has been released, only one more post remains for me to add before December 31.<br />

Sorry its been so long. It was announced awhile back that the next Hobbit movies title was changing, for the better in my opinion. Comic-Con pics of the Hobbit cast were awesome! In other new we have a release date for the Extended Edition of Desolation of Smaug. It will be available in the UK on Nov. 3 and in the US Nov. 4. There will be 25 extra minutes of movie and over nine hours of special features.<br />

P.S<br />
Hi all! Its Hobbit, here, and I'm well aware I haven't posted in a fair while. I lost my steam for posting, and instead handed that job to Movie Fanatic (Many thanks!) for several months (hoping Fanatic will continue doing so, alongside my posting), and with less than 6 months to go for the final film, I am now very excited for this!<br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: black; color: white;">Our journey to make The Hobbit Trilogy has been in some ways like Bilbo's own, with hidden paths revealing their secrets to us as we've gone along. “There and Back Again” felt like the right name for the second of a two film telling of the quest to reclaim Erebor, when Bilbo’s arrival there, and departure, were both contained within the second film. But with three movies, it suddenly felt misplaced—after all, Bilbo has already arrived “there” in the "De<span class="text_exposed_show" style="display: inline;">solation of Smaug".</span></span></div>
<div class="text_exposed_show" style="display: inline; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.31999969482422px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: black;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: white;"></span></span><br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: black; color: white;">When we did the premiere trip late last year, I had a quiet conversation with the studio about the idea of revisiting the title. We decided to keep an open mind until a cut of the film was ready to look at. We reached that point last week, and after viewing the movie, we all agreed there is now one title that feels completely appropriate.</span></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: white;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: black;">
</span><div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: black;">And so: "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" it is.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: black;">As Professor Tolkien intended, “There and Back Again” encompasses Bilbo’s entire adventure, so don’t be surprised if you see it used on a future box-set of all three movies.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: black;">Before then however, we have a film to finish, and much to share with you. It’s been a nice quiet time for us—Jabez and I happily editing away in a dark cave in Wellington—but those halcyon days are quickly coming to an end. It will soon be time to step into the light. Expect to see and hear much about The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies in the coming months.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: black;">And there’s also The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Cut, which we’re in the process of finishing, with over 25 mins of new scenes, all scored with original music composed by Howard Shore.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: black;">It’ll be a fun year!"</span></div>
</span><div style="background-color: white;">

TheOneRing.net has found a way to incorporate Middle Earth into March Madness. Every March for the past few years the online fan-base has a vote, a bracket and eventually a champion. Two years ago the champion was Sam, last year it was Gandalf, and in a rather surprising turn of events the winner this year is *drumroll* Thranduil!!<br />

RIP Blanco, running free in the Undying Lands.<br />
The following is the announcement by Cynthia<br />

Over the past few months, my equine friend, partner, teacher and guide ‘Blanco’ – known around the world for his staring role as Shadowfax in the Lord of The Rings movies – suddenly and without warning fell critically ill. During this time, he required an array of urgent medical care and a lengthy stay in a horse hospital.</div>
<div style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 13px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 13px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
A battery of tests were performed which pointed to inconclusive, but none-the-less extremely serious issues with his intestinal tract and liver. To my dismay, this left the exact nature of his illness, as well as the best method of treatment, an illusive guess at best. As a result, a host of supportive therapies – from conventional to alternative – were provided, in addition, to an outpouring of healing energy, prayers and blessings that came in from his fans and supporters all over the world.</div>
<div style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 13px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 13px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
While Blanco was in the hospital, my family and I visited him daily, so he would continue to know that he was loved and supported even though he was away from home. Some days, he was distant – a physical shell devoid of the opinionated Blanco I’ve known so well. Other days he would rally as soon as he heard my whistle from afar. On those days we’d go on short walks together, allowing for scratches, hugs and a few nibbles of the green grass on the hospital’s lawn.</div>
<div style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 13px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 13px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
One day in particular toward the end of his hospital stay, Blanco returned to his old enthusiastic self, demonstrated by an alert ‘head’s up’ and a loud and joyful whinny to see me. After the hospital staff disconnected him from the IV, he snacked on carrots I’d brought him from home and we went for a long walk around the hospital grounds, even doing a little trotting in unison. When we arrived back at his stall, I told him if he continued to feel better, that we planned to bring him home the following day to continue his rehabilitation there.</div>
<div style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 13px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 13px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Early the next morning, I received a call from one of the many vets overseeing Blanco’s case, informing me that he had taken a turn for the worse overnight and that I should come to the hospital right away. When I approached Blanco’s stall, he was in an obvious state of shut-down and distress – a situation I know well from recent experience with my own life-threatening illness. So, after stepping into his stall, I laid my head on his back and placed my hand over his heart for a few moments of meditative connection. Then, while kneeling down by his side, I asked Blanco if it was his ‘time’. Without a second of hesitation, he turned his head to me, looked me straight in the eye and at that moment, I knew he was ready.</div>
<div style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 13px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 13px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
While the decision was made to help Blanco transition, due to safety concerns the hospital had a strict policy of not allowing non-staff to be present during euthanasia. This was something I was simply unwilling to accept, as I knew my duty to to Blanco and our extraordinary relationship would not be complete without being able to be present to support him during this final leg of his earthly journey.</div>
<div style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 13px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 13px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Instead of allowing him to be taken away to an isolated room to die with strangers, they agreed to euthanize him in his stall and allow me to be by his side – as long as I could persuade him to lay down on his own. Although it took several tries and lots of encouragement due to his severely weakened state, Blanco gave me the gift by laying down for me one last time in response to my gentle request. Although my heart was breaking, as my final gift to him, I stayed strong, balanced and focused, gently repeating, “Relax Blanco. Let go. Walk into the light. Relax and let go” as the Blanco I’ve known so well and loved so deeply slipped away.</div>
<div style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 13px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 13px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
While this leg of Blanco’s journey has passed and my heart still aches, I will live in peace knowing we gave our all to aid in his recovery. We spared no effort nor expense, even though doing so in conjunction with the on-going expenses of my own health challenges has placed an additional financial burden on my family.</div>
<div style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 13px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 13px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
So, if seeing Blanco in the movies or in one of our many videos, clinics or appearances has touched your heart or inspired you in any way, I invite you to <a href="http://www.gofundme.com/7yljv4" sl-processed="1" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; color: #5e8034; cursor: pointer; font-family: inherit; font-size: 13px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;" target="_blank" title="Show your love for Shadowfax">make a donation in memory of Blanco</a> that will help us pay for his extensive medical care. Just in case your getting anxious Desolation of Smaug is available online. Amazon and ITunes have Desolation of Smaug available to buy online only. The DVD/Blu-ray is available to pre-order and will be released on April 8th. The extended edition will be out late this year.<br />
<br />
TheOneRing.net is hosting a March madness of their own. In my opinion a much more interesting version, Middle Earth style. You can vote on who you want to win. It's down to the top eight, voting for this round ends April 1. (They give you a few days to vote for each round.) It has been around at least the last two years. Last years color was blue, the year before that was green, this years is red. Here are some pictures:<br />

There are always so many ways to buy movies. Some even have bookends and Lego figures. Although those tend to be more expensive. You can buy them on DVD, Blu-ray and an assortment of combo packs, or even online like iTunes or Amazon. Desolation of Smaug is available for pre-order and will be released on April 8th.<br />
<br />
Here the link to a article on The One Ring.net about the different choices:<br />

I'm doing a review on one of the works, 'Of Tuor and His Coming to Gondolin'<br />
<br />
This story is very interesting. It sets Tuor, son of Huor brother of Hurin (Who has his own book <i>The Tale of the Children of Hurin</i>)<br />
in the times when Morgoth gripped Beleriand and was close to ruling.<br />
Tuor sets off to find the hidden city 'Gondolin' whose king was friends with his father, Huor.<br />
<br />
He encounters many things, ruins, gods, and even his brother, although their meeting was short lived.<br />
<br />
Overall, I give this story a rating of .. 7.5/10<br />

Its been quite a while since my last post, and I feel the need to explain why I'm not posting as often as I used to.<br />
I'll say it straight out.<br />
<br />
I'm losing ideas and I need help.<br />
<br />
I'm not as excited as I used to be, and, frankly, I can't think of much to post. This is why, I need help. I'm not talking about giving ideas for what to post, I mean a volunteer. I need a volunteer for the blog who will post, well, posts on this blog. I recently sent an email to a photography site, asking for a partnership, although I was denied. (Understandaly of course! They have a lot on their site.)<br />
<br />
If I don't receive ideas and volunteers soon, then I'm afraid this blog may come to an early close.<br />

<div>
The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug is the second movie in the trilogy 'The Hobbit' taking place 60 years before the events of the much-known Lord of The Rings, filmed by Peter Jackson.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This film is very fast-paced and, at some points, a bit <i>too</i> fast-paced. During some sequences at the start of the movie, I felt like it was cutting through scenes very quickly without giving the audience much indication of the current events. However, as the film progressed, scenes became more compact and kept my heart racing in tension for what was going to happen next.</div>
<div>
The sequence in Beorn's house was, in my view, the least explained and quickest scene that was carried out in the movie. </div>
<div>
The film is <i>much</i> better than the first (<i> The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey</i> ) and I absolutely loved it. </div>
<div>
Mirkwood was portrayed very accurately, and was not a disappointment.</div>
<div>
Compared to the book, this is not a very sturdy account of the events in the book, and compared to the book I give it: 5.6/10.0</div>
<div>
But, as a movie on its own, I give it: 9.5/10</div>
<div>

Based on reviews of the movie so far, it is much better than the first one, and.. well, here, have a look at a review for yourself.<br />

He began his Hobbit trilogy at an amiable, meanderingly wayward canter, and tried the patience of believers and non-believers alike with that initial supper scene, almost an epic in itself. But this second episode commences with a narrative whipcrack – a quick flashback to Gandalf and Thorin tensely discussing their great plan in the snug bar of the Prancing Pony – and then we're off, at a tremendous gallop.</div>

The Desolation of Smaug is a cheerfully entertaining and exhilarating adventure tale, a supercharged Saturday morning picture: it's mysterious and strange and yet Jackson also effortlessly conjures up that genial quality that distinguishes The Hobbit from the more solemn Rings stories. The absurdity is winning: you're laughing with, not laughing at. For me, it never sagged once in its mighty two hour 40 minutes running time and the high-frame-rate projection for this film somehow looks richer and denser than it did the last time around. Maybe I'm just getting used to it. Jackson has shown that he is an expert in big-league popular movie-making to rival Lucas and Spielberg. His Smaug, with its fight scenes, chase spectaculars, creepy creatures and secret stone doors opening with a grinding noise, is something to set alongside the Indiana Jones films.<br />
<br style="background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat; border-collapse: collapse; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />
The end of the second movie out of three gives us a chance to revisit that critical question: does The Hobbit story work at this great length? Does epic-i-sation risk making The Hobbit too dour? In the book itself, Tolkien wrote: "Things that are good to have and days that are good to spend are soon told about, and not much to listen to; while things that are uncomfortable, palpitating and even gruesome, may make a good tale, and take a deal of telling anyway." So perhaps Tolkien anticipated the way in which fantasy can grow exponentially, spinning substance out of itself, and become more and more serious and even solemn. Yet this second Hobbit film has real energy and charm.<br />
<br style="background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat; border-collapse: collapse; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />
Smaug is of course the terrible dragon, voiced by <a href="http://www.theguardian.com/culture/benedict-cumberbatch" style="background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat; border-collapse: collapse; color: #005689; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-decoration: none;" title="More from the Guardian on Benedict Cumberbatch">Benedict Cumberbatch</a>, who has usurped the Lonely Mountain and the dwarf kingdom of Erebor with all its gold, and whom the dwarves and Bilbo Baggins are on a mission to unseat. The "desolation" is the wasteland he has imposed on the country thereabouts, rather than any depression the dragon himself may be feeling. Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) is the alpha dwarf, grimly intent on his destiny: to reclaim his people's heritage and homeland. <a href="http://www.theguardian.com/culture/martin-freeman" style="background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat; border-collapse: collapse; color: #005689; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-decoration: none;" title="More from the Guardian on Martin Freeman">Martin Freeman</a> is Bilbo, and Freeman's laidback, more naturalistic line-readings make a pleasing and interesting contrast to the more contoured saga-speak that comes out of everyone else's mouth, whether they are speaking English or Elvish or the guttural Orc tongue.<br />
<br style="background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat; border-collapse: collapse; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />
Bilbo is reluctant to confide the truth about the ring in his possession to<a href="http://www.theguardian.com/culture/ian-mckellen" style="background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat; border-collapse: collapse; color: #005689; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-decoration: none;" title="More from the Guardian on Ian McKellen">Ian McKellen</a>'s Gandalf, who absents himself from the party reasonably early on, leaving that visually striking group looking and feeling vulnerable. Poor little Bilbo playing a non-Snow-White to the even littler dwarves as they trail across the magnificent landscape – but who are in fact tougher, more aggressive and more resilient than him.<br />
<br style="background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat; border-collapse: collapse; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />
A series of bizarre fantasy episodes, in a kind of Jackson-Tolkien-rococo style, brings us closer and closer to the mountain. The dwarves encounter Beorn the skin-changer who agrees, albeit churlishly, to help. The company finds itself lost and somehow spiritually oppressed in the forest of Mirkwood in which they get up close and personal with some colossal and very nasty spiders, which loom out of the screen in three dimensions, encasing their prisoners with skin-crawling webs. But the most uproarious setpiece comes when Bilbo, Thorin and the dwarves escape from the wood-elves' prison by hiding in barrels that are washed away down the river – which will bring them in contact with Bard the Bowman (Luke Evans) and then the vain, shifty and time-serving Lord of Laketown, enjoyably played by <a href="http://www.theguardian.com/culture/stephen-fry" style="background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat; border-collapse: collapse; color: #005689; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-decoration: none;" title="More from the Guardian on Stephen Fry">Stephen Fry</a>.<br />
<br style="background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat; border-collapse: collapse; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />
The barrel-chase down the river is a great sequence: a full-tilt headspinning action spectacular with orc against elf against dwarf-and-hobbit. Somehow, the whole movie has this same huge propulsive energy, whooshing the heroes onwards towards their great goal. Despite the dwarves' tough reputations, and Bilbo's expertise in the ignoble art of burglary, their diminutive size always gives them a weirdly childlike air: an air of outraged and unquenchable innocence. Bilbo's showdown with the terrible Smaug himself is of course the great finale, a narrative rhyme to his faceoff with Gollum that concluded the last film, and a satisfyingly exotic event.<br />
<br style="background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat; border-collapse: collapse; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />
And all the time, Jackson's New Zealand landscape has a storybook beauty, a fitting habitat for this story which unfolds in all seasons and times of day: fallen snowflakes gather in beards, the last rays of sunset glints in fur. Jackson depicts this fantasy world with style and gusto, and I'm looking forward to the third film already.</div>
